Young people’s digital lives are shaped by constant connectivity, social visibility and rapid information flows. While online platforms and social media enable essential social connections, provide spaces for identity formation and self-expression, and offer invaluable educational opportunities, harms are now feared to outweigh benefits if unchecked. Media literacy and digital resilience initiatives are widely used to educate young people about online risks. However, there is growing concern that many adult-designed approaches fail to resonate with the realities of young people’s experiences of online spaces.

TRUST IN TECHNOLOGY

SIX NATIONS REPORT 2021

Trust in 54 newer technologies and media platforms across six nations: New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, United States, China and India.

Trust ratings across 54 new and emerging technologies showed that trust in diagnostic medical technologies was generally highest, while trust in news and online advertising was all-around low. Of the six participating nations, India's trust profile was fairly positive, as was China's. In contrast, the United Kingdom displayed high levels of distrust, closely followed by New Zealand.
